The Calgary Motor Dealers Association (CMDA) is a non-profit organization representing 72 member dealerships. It was formed in 1951 for the enhancement of the industry and the betterment of the community, and is closely affiliated with the Motor Dealers Association of Alberta (MDA) which has over 335 member dealerships across the province.
As a large group of members committed to community spirit, the Calgary Motor Dealers Association enjoys the opportunity to get involved and make an impact on special causes. Over the intervening years the CMDA donated several buses to the Calgary Handi-Bus Association, and for the past 25 years, the CMDA has also been a sponsor of the Motor Dealers Association of Alberta’s Charity Golf Classic, which has raised millions of dollars in support of Special Olympics Alberta.
Each December, since 1991, 100 per cent of CMDA Members have joined in the Calgary Inter-Faith Society's Annual Mayor's Christmas Food Bank Drive by collecting donations at their dealerships.
Among its many charitable involvements, the CMDA has also provided financial support to Discovery House (Udderly Art Auction), Calgary Drop In Centre, Hull Child and Family Services, Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada, Foothills Hospital Development Council, Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter, Opening Gaits Therapeutic Riding Society, STARS Foundation, Calgary Rotary Challenger Park, EMMA Maternity House Society, Inn From the Cold, Mustard Seed, Brain Injury Group, Easter Seals – Camp Horizon, Providence Child Development Society, Renfrew Educational Services, Woods Homes Foundation, Feed the Hungry, PARTY (Prevent Alcohol & Risk-related Trauma in Youth) Calgary Program, the Alzheimer Society of Calgary, Hospice Calgary, ALS Society of Alberta, Alberta Cancer Foundation and many other worthy organizations.
The Calgary International Auto and Truck Show is a major event in Calgary each year, and operates as a non-profit event. Any net revenues raised by the Auto Show are donated to charities in Calgary.
